Programming any energy system work has to be built around these 4 basic parameters.
Without details on each parameter coaches have no idea what training adaption they’re creating.

As an example we can have the exact same training session with exception to one small detail being the rest interval.

Rest intervals are so vital to determining what adaptation we create.
In the first picture we create an environment to run fast and build speed with long rests.
The second picture creates a completely different environment….one that is battling lactic acid tolerance.
The neglect to one parameter leads to a completely different training adaptation than what we may have been after. This shows the importance of not only rest periods in energy system work but the importance of properly programming all 4 variables to be in line with what you’re trying to achieve.
